Clamshell lathe mounted on a large flanged nozzle below a suspended heat exchanger channel
Mactech WD clamshell portable lathes cut and bevel pipe from 31 in to 60 in OD on site. Worm drive power handles extra-heavy wall cuts, and minimal radial and axial clearance lets the lathe install on closed-loop pipe.

The WD series is built for big jobs that need extra power, such as extra-heavy wall cuts on pipe over 40 in in diameter. The lathes cut and bevel pipe from 31 in to 60 in OD across all schedules and materials.
Three models cover the range: the 843WD for pipe from 31 to 43 in, the 848WD for 36 to 48 in and the 860WD for 48 to 60 in. Each needs minimal radial and axial clearance, so it installs quickly on in-line, closed-loop pipe.
The lathes are portable, lightweight and low profile, and the tool holder accepts standard size tooling. Air drive systems include an air caddy with filter and oiler, and custom setups and drives are available.
The official page names thick-walled pipe and heat exchanger repairs or resurfacing as typical WD work.
