Clamshell lathe cutting through a large steel pipe marked for repair, with chips around the cut
Mactech USS clamshell portable lathes sever, bevel and prepare pipe ends from 10 in to 36 in OD on site. They pair the low clearance of the LC series with extra thickness and strength for larger pipe and cold cutting.

The USS series combines the compact clearance of the LC clamshells with extra thickness and strength for larger pipe. The lathes handle severing, sever and bevel, and end preparation on pipe from 10 in to 36 in OD.
A dual-bearing system gives tool rigidity and long machine life, which allows cutting and beveling at the same time. The build allows spark-free cold cutting, so the lathes suit hazardous environments.
Seven models cover the range: 816USS (10 to 16 in), 820USS (14 to 20 in), 824USS (18 to 24 in), 828USS (22 to 28 in), 830USS (24 to 30 in), 832USS (26 to 32 in) and 836USS (30 to 36 in).
The tool holder accepts standard ¾ in to 1 in tool bits. Air drive systems include an air caddy with filter and oiler, and custom setups and drives are available.
USS clamshells work on pipe that stays in place, from pipeline repairs to flange work.
