Operator cabin with large windows overlooking a green log conveyor in a log yard
Möhringer log yards take logs from infeed to sorted boxes. Each log is measured in 3D, an optimisation computer picks the cutting combination, and the logs are debarked and sorted by size and quality, ready for cutting.

The diameter and length of every log are read in 3D. An optimisation computer evaluates the possible cutting combinations and selects the most favourable one, so each log goes forward with its own cutting plan.
Debarking and automated root-swelling reduction are controlled by the operator without slowing down the sorting. The prepared logs are then sorted by dimensions and quality criteria and are ready for cutting.
Hardwood yards are built for heavy duty. Several cross conveyors singulate the logs gently, and the logs pass metal detection, butt-end reduction and debarking before a sorting line that uses hydraulic support arms instead of pushers to protect high-quality logs. The customer may choose the debarker manufacturer.
Softwood yards handle logs up to 24 m with a log singulator and a calibratable scanner. Logs are singulated by a step feeder, measured with bark, cross-cut, checked for metal, butt-end reduced and debarked, then sorted into metal or concrete boxes of any length. Short-log yards for chipper canter and profiling lines are also available.
Möhringer designs log yards for both hardwood and softwood sawmills.
