Dark hardwood board on the red and white infeed arms of a rip line table
The Möhringer AUTOJET RIP rip line is made mainly for cutting hardwood. Six modules measure each board by laser, project the cutting lines, align it gently and rip it with 2 to 6 movable saws at up to 240 m/min.

Precision lasers measure the board surface from both sides to find the usable surface, and cracks can be detected. A full-surface scanner can be added. Software developed for ripping proposes the cutting pattern with the highest yield and projects the cutting lines onto the aligned board, and the operator can change the pattern at the press of a button for quality reasons.
Optimisation options include edging for the highest yield, resawing into individual widths, separating defects or core products, and resawing along the waney edge as a half-board with a finishing cut in a second pass.
The alignment table was developed for dry timber and aligns cracked and crooked boards gently to the cutting line, with a continuous chain bed guiding the board. The circular saw unit has chain beds in front of and behind the saws, adjustable rubber rollers, 2 to 6 movable saw bushes, feed speeds up to 240 m/min and drive capacities up to 2 x 160 kW, and it is fully sound- and dust-insulated.
Slabs are separated from good products automatically without a riving knife, and products can be split into 3 qualities in the same pass. If required, a semi-board is returned automatically, measured again and optimised at the correct waney edge.
Hardwood producers and secondary processors use the line in both the wet mill and the dry mill.

Boards of 18–100 mm are scanned top and bottom without turning and ripped to the projected pattern.
Precise chain guiding gives cuts ready for gluing.
The grader checks the board visually and can override the computer by joystick before the saws are set.
Defects, core products and slabs are separated, with 3 qualities sorted in one pass.
