Narrow Gap SAW

DIG Narrow Gap SAW250 Welding System

Submerged arc welding of thick plate in grooves up to 250 mm deep

The DIG narrow gap SAW250 system welds thick plate in grooves up to 250 mm deep. It runs outer longitudinal and circumferential seams on pressure vessels and thick-walled shafts, on cylinders from Φ1200 mm outer diameter.

Overview

Narrow grooves, less filler

The SAW250 is a narrow-gap submerged arc welding system for thick plate. Compared with submerged arc welding on conventional grooves, the narrow groove needs less filler metal and less welding time.

Butt joints are 18–50 mm wide with a 1–3° single-side angle. The contact nozzle deflects ±3.5° from center with welding gun accuracy of ≤ ±0.5°, wire feed runs at 0.2–4 m/min, and the front wire reel holds at least 30 kg.

The first layer is welded in a single pass and the remaining layers in multiple passes. The workpiece can be up to 350 °C at the groove and the flux up to 125 °C. The tracking slide travels at least ±200 mm horizontally and 500 mm vertically, with ≤0.20 mm tracking accuracy.
