Shipbuilding
Automated welding of ship structures with low distortion.
The DIG LAHW system combines laser welding with MIG arc welding. It joins the gap bridging and easy seam preparation of arc welding with the low heat input, deep penetration and speed of laser welding.

LAHW stands for laser-arc hybrid welding. The laser gives deep penetration at high speed with low heat input, while the MIG arc bridges gaps and makes seam preparation easier.
The result is a smooth weld finish with less thermal distortion and fewer common defects such as porosity, cracking and incomplete fusion. The process saves production time and filler material, needs no pre-weld edge preparation and leaves no slag to remove.
DIG lists shipbuilding as the main field for the LAHW system.
