Rapid bioluminescent toxicity testing in the field and the lab
BioLight Toxy from Aqua Science is a luminometer for acute water toxicity testing with Aliivibrio fischeri. One modular unit works as a portable field reader or a cooled benchtop system, with read times under 7 seconds.
BioLight Toxy measures the light of the bioluminescent bacterium Aliivibrio fischeri before and after exposure to a sample. A drop in light means toxicity; results are reported as percent effect or EC50 and can be converted to toxicity units.
In the field, the portable mode runs the Screening and Basic tests with BioLight Single reagent and gives results in about 20 minutes. On the bench, a cooled read well, a cooled reagent well and a cooling block keep samples at the right temperature; a second cooling block doubles the sample capacity.
Protocols are built into the instrument, so no tablet or computer is needed. Results can be printed, saved or sent to a PC, and the unit offers SCADA connectivity and optional USB/Wi-Fi.
