Nieland SBP Portal Presses

Bending, spot stretching and rolling of double-curved hull panels

Nieland SBP portal presses form double-curved hull panels for shipbuilding. One system combines bending, spot stretching and rolling, and quick tool changes let the operator shape complex panels in one operation.

Overview

One press for two- and three-dimensional hull panels

The SBP shipbuilding press is made for forming double-curved hull panels. Bending, spot stretching and rolling are combined in one system, so operators can form both two- and three-dimensional panels without moving the plate to another machine.

Tool changes are quick, which lets the operator shape a complex panel in one operation. Joinable bending stamps make tooling for large and small panels, and a toolset of top and bottom dies is available for stamping smaller panels.

The press is available with a pressure force from 2750 kN to 15000 kN. It sits on a floor-fitted foundation with space for maintenance access, and it is designed and built in the Netherlands.

Applications

Forming steps on the SBP press

Each forming step uses its own tool, and the operator moves between them on the same press.

Rolling

A PWU rolling unit with opposing upper and lower wheels stretches specific lines on the panel. It is often the first step and leaves a smooth surface.

Bending

Joinable bending stamps shape large and small panels. Bending is often the final step, with the plate guided under the press from the operator interface.
