Nieland PWP Portal Presses

PWP 100 and PWP 150 rolling presses for stretching hull panels

Nieland PWP portal presses focus on rolling and stretching hull panels, the step that forms bulbous, saddle-shaped, double-curved and twisted panels. Bending stays on an existing press brake or a Nieland SBP press.

Overview

A press built for the rolling step

Where the Nieland SBP presses combine bending and rolling, the PWP presses have a clear focus on rolling and stretching. They are engineered for the most specific part of the cold forming process, and it is this rolling and stretching that forms complex panels such as bulbous, saddle-shaped, double-curved and twisted hull panels.

Any bending or forming is done on a press brake the yard already has, used together with the PWP. A PWP can also be combined with an SBP press, which cuts the number of tool changes and lowers the investment.

Two models are available: the PWP 100 rolls plates up to 20 mm and the PWP 150 rolls plates up to 35 mm. Nieland designs and builds its presses in the Netherlands and supplies them as turnkey solutions with knowledge transfer and implementation support.

Applications

Panels formed with PWP

Rolling and stretching on the PWP gives hull panels their double curvature.

Double-curved hull panels

Rolling and stretching forms panels curved in two directions.

Bulbous and saddle-shaped panels

Complex bow and saddle shapes formed by stretching specific areas of the plate.

Twisted hull panels

Twisted panels shaped through controlled rolling and stretching.

Working with a press brake

Bending stays on the existing press brake while the PWP handles rolling.

Paired with an SBP press

Fewer tool changes and a lower investment when combined with an SBP press.
