Overview

Heat goes into the workpiece, not into the air

PEMA Skycoil is a curve-shaped induction preheater with high-precision heat control for welding heavy tubular workpieces up to 15 m in diameter. It works with any existing or new heavy tubular welding process and heats thick materials up to 160 mm, such as wind tower monopiles and offshore foundations.

Induction transfers heat straight into the workpiece. Compared with natural gas, Pemamek states up to 84% better energy efficiency and savings of up to 188 MWh in the assembly of a single monopile. The welding temperature can be reached in only 2 rotations of the workpiece, even on thick material.

Skycoil preheats internal and outside circumferential welds or heats during welding. It covers diameters of 5 to 15 m without adjustment, and the compact unit is moved beside the workpiece with an optional integrated electric drive, a forklift or a pallet jack, then plugged in and set with the heating parameters.

Applications

Where Skycoil is used

Skycoil is designed for thick, large-diameter tubular sections in wind energy and offshore work.

Wind tower monopiles

Seam heating of thick monopile sections, with savings of up to 188 MWh per monopile.

Offshore foundations

Preheating of heavy tubular foundation sections up to 160 mm thick.

Inside and outside seams

Preheating of internal and outside circumferential welds on the same unit.

Heating during welding

Holds thick material at its correct welding temperature while the seam is welded.
